Last week, we had visitors from the Yes I Can Summer Camp.
The Yes I Can Summer Camp runs for eight weeks between June and August. The camp teaches kids the skills to complete a triathlon while making sure they are fed and teaching them about nutritious eating during the summer months when food insecurity can be at its peak.
This year, twenty children, aged eight to eleven, from low-income families attended the camp at no cost. They visited our Food House, where they shaped pretzels in the bread bakery. Then they walked on the Riverwalk to our store in downtown Hillsborough, where they talked about things like how a food co-op differs from other grocery stores and why organic and local food matter.
