What began as a peaceful, artistic, and creative outlet for Tiffany Griffin and Dariel Heron turned into a business. In 2018, while furloughed by the government, Tiffany wrote the business plan for Bright Black Candles.
Tiffany, Dariel, and Elena, the family behind Bright Black Candles, see their candles as a platform for sharing positive narratives about Blackness. Their mission is to create and share high-quality candles that honor the Black Diaspora, as well as run a conscious business model based on cooperative economics, respect, and creativity.
When starting their business, they knew they wanted to do more than “just” sell candles. They wanted to bring about change and help create a world where their daughter had access to positive representations of people who look like her.
For Bright Black, and for so many, the Black Diaspora represents beauty, strength, joy, collectivism, and thriving. They use candles to share those positive representations.
