Jennie McCray began baking more than fifteen years ago in a quest to create recipes that were both healthy and delicious. Buoyed by her commercial success selling muffins, scones, and flatbreads to small shops and at Farmers’ Markets, she moved her family from the rural eastern shore of Virginia to Hillsborough in search of new opportunities, good schools, and an enlightened community. The art on the labels of Accidental Baker packages reflects this journey: the Rosemary label shows the view from the causeway to Chincoteague Island on Virginia’s shore, the Garlic Chive label shows Assateague National Wildlife Refuge, while the Sea Salt and Black Pepper labels show Frisco Beach, North Carolina.
The Accidental Baker’s artisan flatbread crackers became so popular that the McCrays decided to condense their product offerings to mostly crackers. Focusing production allowed them to grow their busines. The Accidental Baker’s Artisan Flatbread Crackers are now sold to more than one hundred retail stores, with three part-time employees in addition to the family.
Weaver Street Market carries handmade Accidental Baker Flatbreads in the Specialty Department. Available in Sea Salt, Sea Salt and Black Pepper, Rosemary and Roasted Garlic, Spicy Ginger Pepper and Sweet Potato, and Garlic Chive, as well as seasonal flavors, these artisanal creations are crisp and flavorful— the perfect complement for the hearty foods of winter.
