We all know that bacon makes everything better – but how can you make better bacon? Spattering, uneven cooking, burned edges – there are so many things that can go wrong. Here are two surefire ways to turn out perfect bacon each time.
Boiling Method:
What? Boil my bacon? Yes! The water gives the bacon a chance to render its fat evenly and to cook through before you begin to brown it. Boiling reduces spatter and provides very evenly cooked pieces. This method produces an evenly crispy piece of bacon. Be careful though – once the water boils out the bacon browns very quickly – so be careful not to overcook.
Directions:
Place bacon in an unheated frying pan.
Pour in just enough water to cover the bacon.
Turn to medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
Allow water to completely evaporate and then reduce heat to medium
Cook bacon, flipping once, until browned. Remove from pan and place on paper toweling to drain.
Oven Method: This method is a great option if you are making a large amount of bacon or if you just do not want to have to stand over the pan being pelted with hot bacon grease. This method produces less spatter and give you evenly chewy pieces of bacon which have a little bit of bend to them. This form of cooking does not require any flipping at all. Once the bacon is in the pan – there is no reason to touch it again! Watch the bacon carefully toward the end of cooking to ensure it does not overcook.
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Place a rack in a rimmed baking sheet.
Place the bacon on top of the rack.
Place in oven and cook until bacon is browned evenly throughout.
That’s it! Perfect bacon with little mess or fuss.
