December begins our annual Hope for the Holidays campaign. We’ve selected over a dozen holiday favorites, like locally grown poinsettias and our house-made stollen and quick breads. Everytime you purchase a Hope for the Holidays item, we’ll make a donation to our Cooperative Community Fund (CCF), a sustainable endowment fund for community donations.
The CCF gives grants each year to local nonprofits for projects that focus on “Access to Healthy Food.” In September, local hunger relief group PORCH received a $2,100 grant to launch PORCH Cooks, a project that provides nutritional information and recipes to food recipients. Another local group, TABLE, received a $1,020 grant to launch TABLE On the Go, a project to take TABLE’s kids on a field trip to a local farm, where the children learned about growing food and farming. (Read more about the CCF here.)
This year, we’ve added five ready-to-give gifts to our Hope for the Holidays offerings. Our Gifts for Good gift packs feature locally produced or cooperatively produced items like Chapel Hill Toffee and Riojana wines. In addition to a donation to Hope for the Holidays, purchasing a Gift for Good supports producers doing good in the world. Gifts for Good will be in stores soon and throughout the holiday season.
