Half of a Million Donated, 100% for Food
This month Weaver Street Market’s Community Food Partnerships reached $500,000 in donations for hunger relief in Orange County. 100% of the funds are used to purchase healthy food for the kids and families served by our community food partners—PORCH, TABLE, Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM), Interfaith Council for Social Services (IFC), and Orange County Schools. That’s enabled us to purchase over 650,000 pounds of food!
When the program was launched in 2015, shoppers purchased $30 bags of produce and $15 backpacks of food for kids. In the spring of 2017, we switched to the Round Up!—shoppers have the option of rounding up their total purchase to the nearest dollar. The power of the round up is many, many small donations quickly add up to a substantial collective amount.
So far, the average round up is 48 cents and shoppers have said “YES” to rounding up 575,000 times yielding $275,000 for food to feed the hungry!
